Here is a sample of what you can expect on our Winter Itineraries - December to March. The
order of days, activities and hotels may change due to weather, events and other logistics
but the quality of your holiday will not suffer. In fact, this holiday is meant to be
flexible to allow us to take in a wide range of activities under superb conditions - just
relax and let us handle the nuts and bolts. Overview /

DESCRIPTION:
This one week excursion
will incorporate great activities such as alpine trekking, mountain biking, skiing in the
Sierra Nevada (site of 1996 World Ski Championships), or snow shoe trekking, climbing and
a choice of other things depending on the
conditions and the
individual's desire. Sound
hectic? It would to the average person but in truth, we understand that you are on holiday
and need a break from the grind. The pace of these activities is dictated by you! We are
simply providing the structure and guidance for you to carry out all your favourite
activities in a unique way - especially in the middle of your winter season under the warm Andalucian sun! To be honest, this week is a great opportunity to burn off the
winter's
excesses and to get in shape for the spring!
DURATION OF TOUR / STARTING DAY:
8 days, 7 nights - starting on Sundays
DAY 1:
(Sunday)
Meet at Malaga airport with afternoon transfer to our mountain base for the next two
nights.
DAY 2:
(Monday)
After breakfast we'll trek around the
high ridges that guard the lush valley, turquoise lake and Mediterranean coast below. This
hike will provide a bit of scrambling and trail following in some quiet, remote
countryside. In the afternoon we can descend the valley tracks by mountain bike or simply
relax in the hotel's unique facilities while gazing out to sea. The emphasis of our first
day of activities is to "take it easy", see the sites and get to know one
another!
DAY 3: (Tuesday)
We move from our comfy quarters in the direction of Granada with a stop along the way to
cycle the wonderful tracks in sun-drenched forests and Natural Park terrain. As an
alternative, we can make a scramble attempt up a beautiful peak that offers views of the
Sierra Nevada range and if clear enough, the African coastline. To finish the day we head
into the historic and fascinating city of Granada for an evening of "urban"
experiences that includes great food, cafes, bars and many other attractions - including a
Flamenco show in the infamous Gypsy Quarter.
DAY 4:
(Wednesday)
Ski Day!!! We are up at a reasonable hour for a hearty breakfast then a 30 minute shuttle
high up into the Sierra Nevada to the fascinating ski resort - home of both the World Ski
Championships and the World Mountain Bike Championships. Outside of being Spain's largest
ski resort, it is also the warmest! In fact, afternoon temperatures and the heat of the
sun will give you the look and feel of being on the beach for a week!
Beginner on the slopes? Don't worry, you can purchase a beginner's lesson package (1/2 or
full day), for very reasonable rates - not too mention skiing the numerous easy runs that
cater to your level. Into something a little more challenging? Try the slalom runs used by
the World's best or have a go on the half pipes with a snowboard. Sierra Nevada has it all
- including cross-country skiing when the snow is really abundant.
Returning to Granada for the evening will give you yet another chance to see some of the
great sites and / or hang out in a pub or café to reflect on the day's events.
DAY 5:
(Thursday)
What a great day to rest your bones, cater to your weathered skin and see some gorgeous
villages and sites from the comforts of our mini-bus. This is our travel day to Ronda -
the home of bull fighting and many other great attractions. For our purposes, it is also
the base for exploring the fantastic terrain of Grazalema National Park. Additionally, as
an option during our journey from Granada, we can visit the impressive El Chorro Gorge and
stop for an afternoon tapas and local wine in one of the many white villages on route. The
choice is yours, there are many itineraries and options for this day. Our night will be
spent in Ronda or Montejaque- giving you a chance to explore these fine towns and sample
yet some more of real Spain.
DAY 6:
(Friday)
An activity day where we choose between mountain biking, trekking and, if you're really
knackered - taking the fabulous mountain train to our next destination! For biking and
trekking, the route is basically the same - a scenic low-lying trail along the Rio
Guadiaro. Try to imagine while doing this 10 km route that pre-historic man utilized this
same river valley and its steep walls for his primitive lifestyle. Lush tropical plants
and various species of wildlife make use of this roller coaster single-track trail - a
hell of a ride and a pleasant trek. A visit to the Pileta Caves and the awe-inspiring cave
drawings can also be arranged before we do the quick shuttle up to our next lodge - the
Cortes Alburge. This hotel facility hides in the remote cork forests above the white
village of Cortes Del La Frontera. The resort gives the feeling of being in a camp setting
with its stone walls, wooden beams, fire places and its natural camouflage into the
forests around it - giving you the feeling of being away from it all!
DAY 7:
(Saturday)
The final day of activity! We begin the morning with a scenic transfer over the Bermeja
range, a stop in Guacin to trek up to the Arabic Castle, and then a short drive over the
Valle Genal to Casares. If the scattering of tiny white villages clinging to forested
mountain slopes doesn't distract you then the stunning views of
Gibraltar and Morocco
will! By now you will have covered a huge portion of Andalucia by foot, bike, and road.
You will have gone further, saw more sites and natural beauty and performed the widest
variety of activities than any other tour around!
The village of Casares - dubbed the hanging village for its precarious location on rocky
cliffs is our favourite (see our first picture on the home page!). Only 15 minutes from the
beach, Casares is still years behind in modern developments and looks like it will retain
its traditions - a relief! After a breathtaking village tour and trek through the Sierra
Crestillana, we can descend down to the coast for a relaxing afternoon on the beach
(sunbathing or strolling - depending on the weather), or you can choose to stay in the
village and soak up its laid back Andalucian / Moorish vibes. Our final night is spent in
either the laid back town of Estepona (with its long, quiet beaches), or in Casares
village itself. As an alternative this day, you may choose to do some of the challenging
mountain bike rides in the Casares area (See Mountain Bike Holidays for information), or
do the pleasant riding descent to the beach from the village. This all depends on your
energy out put by the end of the week!
DAY 8: (Sunday)
After breakfast we will make our way along the coast to Malaga Airport for our departures.
