" I'm a 52 year old archaeologist for a wildfire crew working at more than
7,000 feet in the mountains. Last year, after spending a few winter months at my
desk, I was reminded that the coming summer could see wildfires as bad as
record-setting 2000. To do my job I must pass all knowledge, experience, and,
especially, physical requirements for "arduous duty wild-land firefighter". The
latter I was obviously not prepared for. As the culmination of a European
holiday, I chose an Adventure Bug week-long hike nearer sea level for the
promised culture, beauty, and camaraderie, as well as to prepare to pass the
required endurance test upon arriving back home. The trip was great value, the
vistas grand, the group entertaining and interesting, and, despite my tender
feet, it ended all too soon. Matt and Julie went out of their way to meet
individual needs (my snoring), cajoled and waited for me as I brought up the
rear, provided quality lodging, meals with wine, gave us insight into the
culture and environment, and ultimately welcomed us into their home. And, I
passed the endurance test! I recommend their adventures for their attention to
detail and personal touches. Happy trails!!"
